Changde Vocational Technical College

Changde Vocational and Technical College [college code 13039] is a full-time state-funded vocational college approved by the Hunan Provincial Government, registered by the Ministry of Education, sponsored by Changde Municipal Government and administered by Hunan Provincial Education Department. It is situated in Changde, an exemplary city among China’s middle-sized cities with an reputation of “a city in Shangrila”. The College was first established in 2003 after it amalgamatedthe former Changde Agricultural School, Changde Hygiene School and Changde Mechatronic Engineering School, three public secondary colleges, all of which were public secondary colleges. The college has an education history of 107 years and rich cutural and historic heritage. Its predecessor, Changde Agricultural School was founded in 1905(the 31th year of GuangXu, Qing Dynasty), is the oldest agricutural school ever established in Hunan province and among the eight of the oldest of its kind in the whole nation. Changde Hygiene School, founded in 1951, was promoted to Changde Medical College in 1958. Changde Mechatronic Engineering School was established in 1977, with its original name “Changde Agricultural Mechanization School”. These three schools had nurtured thousands of technical talents for regional social and economic development in more than a century.The college was rated “excellent” during the Evaluation of Educational Level in Higher Vocational Colleges by the Ministry of National Educationand was labelled “Hunan Civilized College” in 2007. In 2011 it was among the pilot colleges where independent student recruitment can be performed in Hunan Province and in 2012 the college was rated “Exemplary Vocational College in Hunan Province”.

The college covers an area of 713,333 square meters, with an overall floorage of 334,100 square meters. The college boasts teaching and research equipment worth 72.77 million yuan and more than 734,000 volumes of books in the library with 1800 domestic and foreign periodicals. Besides, the college has 15 training centers, 269 laboratories,  and 10 exemplary teaching bases by cooperating with enterprises. 

The college now has a full-time enrollment of 11000 students and a teaching staff of 654 members, including 38 professors, 146 associate professors and 136 teachers who are holders of doctor’s or master’s degrees. It also boasts two “provincial outstanding teachers”, 3 teaching teams at provincial level, 3 academic leaders, 7 visiting scholars at national and provincial level, and 4 candidates for provincial young key teachers. Above all, it possesses 1 national top quality course and 2 provincial top quality couses.

The college mainly focuses on higher vocational education and has under it 8 departments (namely, departments of nursing, medicine, pharmacy, mechanical and electrical engineering, economic management, civil engineering, bioengineering, automotive engineering, and common courses, an subodinate school of continuing education, a judicial appraisal center, two affiliated hospitals and an educational foundation. Among its 25 specialties, medicine, manufacture and agriculture and farming are the three key projects for professional construction with nusring, pharmacy, clinical medicine, auto repair and maintenance, construction technology and horticulture being the key construction specialties. The college also takes the lead in developing the question bank and assessment criteria of selective skill examination for vocational students majoring in pharmacy in Hunan Province. In 2012, its pharmacy specialty was granted the exemplary construction project with in Hunan province and its nursing specialty was rated among the best in the province with vocational features.
