Lanzhou Jiaotong University

Lanzhou Jiaotong University (formerly Lanzhou Railway Institute) was founded in May 1958. It was formed by Beijing Railway Institute (now Beijing Jiaotong University) and Tangshan Railway College (now Southwest Jiaotong University). The three railway undergraduate colleges were originally affiliated to the Ministry of Railways. In 2000, the system of "co-construction between the central and local governments and the management of local governments" was implemented. In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the “Lanzhou Railway Institute” was renamed “Lanzhou Jiaotong University”.

In the same year, Professor Lin Damei, one of the founders of China's railway transportation discipline, Professor Hu Chunnong, a famous bridge expert, Professor Shen Zhiyang, a famous railway track expert, Professor Sun Yiyin, a famous cable communication expert, Professor Zhang Dianzhi, a famous mechanical expert, and a famous radio technology expert. More than 340 faculty members, including Professor Ban Yichao and famous mathematician Professor Zhao Wei, were transferred to the school from the Beijing and Tang dynasties. Later, the Ministry of Railways transferred a group of Ph.D. When the school was founded in the same year, it recruited 446 students from 7 undergraduate majors.

The school has always adhered to the excellent school-running tradition of “strict study and strict requirements” of Jiaotong University, and strives to cultivate high-level professionals with solid foundation, broad knowledge, strong ability, high quality, innovative spirit and international vision. The professional groups of civil engineering, water supply and drainage science and engineering, transportation, vehicle engineering, rail transit signal and control, electrical engineering and automation, communication engineering, etc. have obvious advantages. In 2005, the Ministry of Education undergraduate teaching work evaluation was awarded the "excellent" conclusion. In 2011, it was selected as the second batch of outstanding engineer education training plan of the Ministry of Education to implement the university. In 2017, it was selected as the second batch of national reform and entrepreneurship education reform demonstration schools in the Ministry of Education. The campus covers an area of 1565 mu, the total construction area of the school building is 810,300 square meters, the total fixed assets is 1.601 billion yuan, the total value of teaching and research laboratory equipment is 317 million yuan, and the library has a collection of 2.852 million books. There are 61 undergraduate majors, more than 22,000 undergraduate students, and 82% of engineering students. There are 4351 graduate students, including 4035 postgraduates and 316 doctoral students. The school is one of the first universities in China to have the right to grant master's degrees. In 2003, it became a doctoral degree-granting unit. The school's disciplines are distinctive and complete, covering 8 disciplines including engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art and education. There are 4 postdoctoral research stations and 6 doctoral degrees. Level subjects, 24 master's degree programs, and 9 master's degree programs. There are 5 disciplines (groups) selected for the first-class discipline construction projects in Gansu Province, including 2 dominant disciplines and 3 A-category specialty disciplines. There are 19 provincial key disciplines, including 17 provincial key construction disciplines and 2 provincial key cultivation disciplines. It is the earliest university in the country to undertake the scientific research projects of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway Project participated in the project. In 2008, it won the National Science and Technology Progress Special Award (listed first in the national participating universities). The achievements of several projects have won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the special award of Railway Science and Technology Progress, and the first prize of Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. In the past two years, 1,494 papers published by teachers have been searched by CSTPCD, a Chinese scientific paper and citation database; 393 projects of various scientific research projects have been undertaken; 30 scientific and technological achievements have been awarded by the provincial and ministerial levels; 345 patents have been authorized; The annual amount is about 100 million yuan. There are 2 national engineering technology research centers, 14 provincial and ministerial engineering research centers and 15 provincial and ministerial key laboratories.

The teaching characteristics have developed into a teaching and research university with a multidisciplinary coordinated development of engineering and a strong overall educational strength.
