Wuchang University of Technology

Established in 1997,  Wuchang  University of Technology（WUT）is a  full-time undergraduate university approved  by the Ministry of Education. Over 20 years since its inception, WUT has seen a  balanced discipline mix of engineering, management, art, economics, literature,  law, and medicines. Cocooned by Tangxun Lake, China’s biggest downtown lake, WUT  occupies 828,100 m² and boasts a floor area of 403,000 m².  There are 11 schools in WUT, including School of Artificial Intelligence, School  of Urban Construction, School of Life Science, School of Nursing, School of  Business, School of Law, Literature& Foreign Languages, School of Art  Design, School of Television and Media, School of International Education,  School of General Caliber-oriented Education and School of Continuing Education,  with one building for each. With 64 undergraduate and junior college programs  available, WUT has over 15,000 students of three kinds, undergraduates,  post-graduates, and international  students.

Educational  Strengths

WUT has  an experimental teaching center, and each school has its own building. AT WUT,  we have exceeded the Ministry of Education standards on the number of teaching  and research instrument per student, the number of seats in multimedia  classrooms and speech labs, and the number of computers. We rank top among our  peers in building an information-based campus.

WUT boasts a large group of outstanding  educators with varying specialities. There are 772 teachers. of which  48.17% have obtained senior titles, 83.84% with master or doctor degree, and  40.7% capable of assuming both research and teaching positions.

WUT  boasts a well-equipped library with a floor area over 30,000 m². It  stores 3,735,900 books, including 1,562,500 printed ones and 2,176,000  electronic ones. It offers 125 Chinese and foreign-language electronic  databases.

Experimental and  Training Facilities.We have built  150 labs that can support  all disciplines available at WUT, and 158 fieldwork bases, including two at the provincial level.  

WUT has complete  facilities to secure smooth university operation.All  necessary living and recreation facilities are available here including academic  exchange center, student service center, student recreation center,  national-standard gym, club, fitness center, 3D cinema, standard student dorm,  teacher apartment, canteen, financial outlets, hospital, and  supermarkets.

Educational  Achievements

Culturing Quality  Talents.Graduate recruitment has been over 95% for  years, and ranked No.1 among provincial-administered  universities in 2014 and 2015 in a row. Our admission scores have been the  highest ones among our peers. There has been a huge increase in proportion of  graduates passing postgraduate admission test or civil servant exam. Nearly 30%  of our graduates are serving Global 500 and major enterprises and institutions  at home. A number of graduates have obtained a high yearly income over 200,000  yuan. Self-employment becomes a trend among students, and over 300 are worth over 10 million  yuan, some even over 100 million or dozens of billion yuan.

Research  outcomes and honors received by students ranked the forefront by both quantity  and quality. Our students have obtained 3,314 awards at provincial,  ministry-level and above, including 4 Germany IF Design Awards, 2 Red Dot Design  awards, and 60 first prizes in National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest,  Mathematical Modeling Contest, Robot Competition, Engineering Budget Software  Competition, etc. They have published 886 pieces of thesis, 30 novels and  collections of poems, acquired 236 national patents, and wrote script for and  shoot four films, including 1 hitting cinemas across China and another with the  third prize in the Micro Movie Competition organized by the Propaganda  Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.

Building and Optimizing  Disciplines and Professions.

WUT is  the first among its Hubei peers to establish 2 school pilots for higher  education reform, to launch 1 provincial-level key disciplines, 2  provincial-level key majors, 5 majors related to emerging (pillar) industries of  strategic importance, 4 major pilots for comprehensive reform, and 2 majors  included in the joint education program with Hubei Outstanding Engineers.  Meanwhile, WUT is one of the first private colleges to have 9 provincial-level  excellent course, 3 provincial-level college internship bases, and 1 Hubei  talent base tailored for service outsourcing, 3 Hubei outstanding young and  middle-aged science and technology innovation team, and 56 industry-college  joint education programs supported by the Ministry of  Education.

International  Cooperation

WUT  has a fruitful cooperation with global partners.At WUT, we have become partner with  50 universities in 20 countries including  America, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand,  and India, and have recruited 244international students in more than 20  countries across the world. At the same time, we have set up overseas campuses  in Osaka of Japan, Paris of France and  BangkokofThailand.We  provides  great platforms for our students to seek further study, paid internship, study  tour, and employment overseas. WUTranked 2nd on the “List of Most Globally  Competitive Private Colleges in China” in  2017.

Educational  Philosophy

WUT  pioneered in proposing the “Caliber-oriented Education  to Success” model in  educating and nurturing its students. The model targets at making students  successful through a mix of liberal studies, profession, and innovation &  entrepreneurship, which guarantees a desirable academic performance and  employment. It also lays a solid groundwork for them to pursue their  professional career and start their own businesses.

WUT's  unique “Caliber-oriented  Education  to Success”  has been  highly  recognized by  Leaders.In 2015, China  Economic and Social Council assembled a research team named “WUT Innovative and  High-Caliber Applied Talent Research and Practice”, which has been digging the  success of WUT for more than one year. It presented a report named “Successful  Experience of WUT in Culturing High-Caliber Applied Talents  and Advices”. On the report forwarded by Secretary Du Qinglin from Secretariat  of the Communist Party of China, then Vice Premier Liu Yandong commented that  “We should spread the success model of WUT in culturing talents.” The Central  Government Leading Small Group of Education.
System Reform printed a special  report named “Innovative High-Caliber Student Cultivation at WUT” to promote the  success model of WUT nationwide. On May 25, 2017, leaders and experts from  CPPCC, Ministry of Education, Hubei Provincial People’s Government, Provincial  CPPCC, Hubei Provincial Department of Education, Hubei Provincial Department of  Finance, and Hubei Provincial Office of Development Strategy Planning came to  WUT for a meeting on the quest of Vice Premier Liu  Yandong.

Social  Reputation

WUT was  honored by the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and Hubei Provincial People’s  Government as “Hubei Provincial Outstanding Units”, and awarded “Outstanding  Hubei College of Ideological Education” by the College Working Committee of CPC  Hubei Provincial Committee and Hubei Provincial Department of Education, and  “Top Ten Best College Campus of Hubei Province”. In 2012, WUT was ranked 144th  in the “List of Chinese Colleges”, which include only two private ones. Other  honors include No.1 Ranking in the “Most Influential Private Colleges” selected  by cnr.cn, “Famous Branded Private Colleges” by tencent.com, “Most Influential  Private Colleges” by Sina, and “Colleges with Most Competitive Graduates” by  NetEase. At the same time, it made into “Top 100 Colleges with Most Competitive  Graduates”, “Top Ten Chinese Private Colleges”, and “Most Powerful Chinese  Private Colleges” for several editions in a row.
