Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) has a history dating back to the year of 1866 when the Fujian Shipping and Polity School was founded. In 1952, the first secondary technical school of shipbuilding in P.R. China was set up in Shanghai by the Shipping Bureau of Ministry of Industrial Machinery. 

With its main location in the scenic and historic Zhenjiang city, the University now occupies four purpose-built campuses, which cover more than 428 acres in total, with three campuses in Zhenjiang and one in Zhangjiagang of Suzhou. A new modern campus covering over 387 acres in now under construction. JUST currently manages the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs through 15 schools. By far, the University has set up 1 post-doctoral station, 2 doctoral degree awarding units of first-level disciplines, 6 doctoral degree awarding units of second-level disciplines, 12 master degree awarding units of first-level disciplines, 48 master degree awarding units of second-level disciplines and 59 undergraduate programs. Under the guidance and assistance of over 2000 faculty and administrative staff, the University now has about 23,133 undergraduates over 3,687 postgraduates and 501 full-time overseas students actively engaged in multiple discipline areas. 

JUST now is an engineering-oriented university with distinctive characteristics which has formed a well-established talent training system of bachelor, master and doctoral degree levels. It is now one of the key construction universities of Jiangsu Province and is a university of recognized excellence by the Ministry of Education of China. It is also one of the cultivated universities of excellent engineers of the MOEC. In 2016, JUST successfully passed the Undergraduate Education Evaluation by the MOEC.
