Hebei North College is located in Zhangjiakou City, a famous city outside the country known as Beijing "North Gate" and "back garden". The essence of Zhang Yuan culture, with a long history and profound cultural accumulation, is a comprehensive provincial undergraduate college with master's degree award right in Northwest Hebei Province.

The school was approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. In September 2003, it was formed by the combination of three provincial colleges and universities, namely Zhangjiakou Medical College, Zhangjiakou normal college and Zhangjiakou agricultural college. Zhangjiakou medical college was established in 1945, and was approved by the Ministry of education in December 1982 to be upgraded to a bachelor's college, named Zhangjiakou Medical College; Zhangjiakou normal college was founded in 1956; Zhangjiakou agricultural college was founded in 1923. In the course of running a school in the past century, the school has accumulated rich experience in running a school, has a high level of teaching and scientific research, and has made important contributions to the local economic construction and social development.

The school has four campuses: West Campus, east campus, South Campus and north campus. The campus covers an area of 1045300 square meters and a building area of 476000 square meters. It has complete modern teaching facilities, advanced campus network, experimental center, provincial experimental teaching demonstration center and basic laboratory of various disciplines. The library has more than 20102000 paper books. There are 2 affiliated hospitals, 13 non affiliated hospitals, 273 other internship hospitals, farms, pastures, animal hospitals and educational practice bases. Among them, the Affiliated First Hospital is the junction of Hebei, Jin and Mongolia, with the largest scale, the most complete department, advanced equipment and high diagnosis and treatment level. It is a class-A hospital and a national infant care hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation.

The school has 4579 faculty and staff (including two affiliated hospitals directly under the school). Among them, 1457 in-service staff of the school headquarters, 186 teachers with positive and senior titles, 412 deputy senior titles, 1046 teachers with doctor and master's degree, 839 tutors for master students both inside and outside the school. The international exchange of the school is becoming more and more active, and the international cooperation in education has been strengthened. It has established a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with universities and scientific research institutes in Russia, Finland, the United States, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Ukraine, New Zealand and other countries and regions, and invited domestic and foreign famous scholars to be part-time or visiting professors of our school. The school has established a good relationship of exchange and cooperation with foreign universities. At present, students from 34 countries, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Canada, UK and Sweden, study medicine in school. In 2010, the University joined the 121 double degree program of China US talent training plan, launched the "1+2+1 China US talent training plan", and established substantive cooperation relations with 38 state universities in the United States in terms of student training, teacher exchange and discipline construction. In recent years, the school has launched international exchange projects such as "Sino Finnish talent training project" and "Sino Russian government scholarship project", and continuously selects excellent teachers and students to study and study abroad.

The University hosted and published the Journal of Hebei North University (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION and Natural Science Edition), Journal of neuropharmacology and Hebei North Institute newspaper.
