Nanning – One of the most beautiful cities in China; bridge between China and ASEAN.

Nanning Wuxu International Airport (NNG) is located in Wuxu Town, about 31 kilometers (19 miles) southwest from the city proper. Since its opening, this airport has reached a capacity of some 2.5 million passengers each year and can handle 15 large passenger airliners at one time. Advanced technology, including radar system, VOR system and blind landing greatly ensure flight safety while sound freight transit facilities make passengers' trips easier. The airport also provides special services for different groups of passengers, such as seniors, handicapped and children without companions.

Taxies in Nanning are red or green in color. There are taxi stops along most of the main streets, where you can summon those which display a 'For Hire' sign. The charge for taxies depends on the different logos. For ordinary ones, the flat rate is CNY5-CNY6 for the first two kilometers (about 1.2 miles); then CNY1.2 for each extra kilometer. Complaint phone numbers can usually be found in eye-catching places in a taxi.

Nanning sits beside Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan and Guangdong provinces, with its urban area located in the Nanning Basin on the Lingnan Mountain Range. It has a subtropical Monsoon climate, with an average annual maximum summer temperature of 34°C (92°F) and daily rainfall in the summer months.

Fen is made by steaming the rice liquor in bamboo boxes. The steamed liquor then becomes a whole cake and can be cut into different shapes. Fen can be eaten with different ingredients, resulting in many varieties of Fen food. Lao You Fen (Old Friend Rice Noodles) is the most famous Fen dish and has over 100 years of history. It had so many flavors including garlic, fermented bean, pepper, beef and sour bamboo shoots. It became popular for its multi-flavors and cold-busting abilities.

Most people in China may be more familiar with Beijing Roast Duck which is the quintessential symbol of all northern China duck dishes. Actually Nanning Shao Ya (roasted duck) is representative of all southern China duck dishes. Different from Beijing ducks, Nanning roast ducks are made of local fatty ducks and special ingredients. The duck meat is still together with bones and skin, appearing as a brightly golden color. The meat is amazingly tender and even the bones are more delicious than ever thought possible.

Nanning locals prefer sour food. Suan Ye (fermented fruit or vegetable) has been popular for centuries. The locals soak some fruits such as pineapple, pawpaw, mango, olive and wild peach in a mixture of vinegar, pepper and sugar. Some use vegetables as materials such as tender cabbages, carrots, broccoli and lotus roots. The fermented fruit or vegetable tastes both sweet and sour as well as a little hot. This is also a good way to preserve food.

The Qingxiu mountain range is the 'green lung' of Nanning City. Located 5 kilometers (about 3.1 miles) southeast of the suburbs of the city and bordering the Yongjiang River, the mountain range is renowned for its beauty and the clear waters which run through it. It is no wonder they are counted as one of the Eight Wonderful Sceneries of ancient Nanning. The undulating chains of mountains, verdant trees, liquid springs and historic sites together make this mountain a good place to meet the charm of antique taste and tranquility.

Nanhu Lake Park is located in the southeast of Nanning City and features aquatic sceneries and subtropical gardening landscapes. It covers an area of 1.3 square kilometers (about 0.5 square miles) and a quarter of the whole park is covered by the lake. Nanhu Lake is an ideal place to entertain yourself. In the park, you can fully appreciate the views of various plants, such as Pinang, Chinese fan palms, and other tropical trees. There are Chinese herbal gardens with over 200 Chinese herbs, orchid gardens and bonsai gardens. A visit in the gardens will reward you with not only abundant knowledge but also the pleasures of nature's beauty.
